Introduction of the Institute

  • Govt. Dudhadhari Bajrang Girls' Post-Graduate College, Raipur is a premier higher education institution for women in Chhattisgarh. The college has been accredited B++ in 2004 and B grade in the 2015 by NAAC Bengaluru.
  • Established in 1958, the college has a brilliant record of excellence in both academic as well as co-curricular activities for a continuous period exceeding six decades.
  • The college campus is housed in the heart of state capital city Raipur, on a land parcel sizing about 4.47 acres. Such a central location ensures best possible access to women candidates aspiring for higher education. Being a Government institution, the cost of education is very low, further adding to the accessibility of higher education for women.
  • The land parcel housing the campus was donated by Hon’ble Dudhadhari Math Raipur at the time of its foundation i.e. 1958. In order to ensure further availability of resources for its functioning and expansion, a parcel of cultivated land sizing three hundred and one acres along with a cash donation amounting Three Lakh One Hundred and One Rupee was also donated by Hon’ble Math in 1958.
  • The College has been named after Rajeshri Mahant Shri Bajrang Das Ji, a revered former head priest of Hon’ble Dudhadhari Math. The head priests of the Math are known to live only on milk as their food (Dudh- Ahari). The Math itself has contributed to establishment of many educational institutions and their extensive contribution to various philanthropic causes.
  • The college was set up with the aim to bring the women of this under-developed region to the mainstream of the nation. The college which began with mere 16 girls in 1958 now has about 4000 young women enrolled as students hailing mostly from marginalized class residing in tribal and remote rural areas.
  • This College has been affiliated to Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur and ranks among the best colleges in the State. It is widely known for its multi-disciplinary areas of study viz. Arts, Science, Home-Science Commerce, and physical education.
  • The College has been granted the status of Autonomous College under Pt Ravishankar Shukla University since 1988.
  • The College was recognized as a “College with Potential for Excellence” (CPE) in 2011 and later became the first institute to receive excellence in “Department of Home Science” by the state government in M.H. Sc. in Food & Nutrition, Human Development and Resource Management along with a PG diploma in Food and Dietetics.
  • The college has been a recognized research Centre for the Departments of Commerce, Botany, Zoology, Home-Science, Geography, Hindi, English, History and Sociology under Pt Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur.
  • Being inclusive has been one of the defining features of the College and being marked under “Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan” (Accessible India Campaign) has been a major recognition towards these efforts. There are many differently abled young women (including many visually challenged ones) studying in the regular classroom programs, and they have excelled in national level competitive examinations like UGC-NET and others. In order to ensure accessibility for such students, entire main building including the upper floor has been made accessible with specially designed corridor facilities, braille labels outside all rooms and laboratories, and a dedicated braille section in the library.
  • The NCC unit of the College has an illustrious record under the exemplary mentorship of a former alumna, who herself had participated in Republic Day Parade (RDC) as a cadet some decades ago, and selected to have a breakfast with the then Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi. The Unit under her has produced many RDC participants and Army officers.
  • The NSS unit too has distinguished itself for community participation and service. NSS volunteers of this college have won laurels at state as well as national level including President of India medal for NSS.
  • The Youth Red-Cross (YRC) Society too has excelled in its activities. The Red Ribbon Club under this society has been recognized as the Best in Chhattisgarh by National Aids Control Program (NACO) and felicitated by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in December 2019.
  • A career guidance cell, a counselling and a placement cell have also been set up. Vocational training is offered to students through various collaborative programs. One such programme has been supported by Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) Mumbai.
  • Guest lectures by experts of various subjects and practicing professionals are organized throughout the year. Learned people from various domains including scientists, social workers and bureaucrats regularly address our students.
  • An alumni association is formed to inspire, support and encourage the students. The alumnae list includes scientists, bureaucrats, social workers and accomplished women in many other domains as well. They could be found in every corner of the globe.
